Rêves Gourmands, an intimate gastronomic haven in Vernayaz
Nestled at the foot of the Trient Valley, Bob and Cécile Jacq have been welcoming guests since 2008 to the Rêves Gourmands hotel and restaurant, a charming establishment that combines passion, authenticity and gourmet flavours.
An adventure for two
Having lived in the region for over 18 years, the owners, both from the hotel industry, wanted to create a place that reflected their personalities: a small establishment that they could manage together.
With only about twenty covers and six double rooms, they offer a friendly and personalised atmosphere, far from the hustle and bustle of large restaurants.
Inspired, seasonal cuisine
There is no traditional menu here: Bob offers a four-course surprise menu, carefully prepared using seasonal produce. This formula appeals to both the curious and the discerning gourmets, while taking food allergies into account. Guests can enjoy refined, gourmet and inventive French cuisine.
The restaurant is one of around 250 member establishments of La Guilde in Switzerland and is distinguished by its three crowns.
The restaurant is only open in the evening, from Wednesday to Saturday, and by reservation only, promising an exclusive and attentive experience.
Wine, a passion to be shared
The wine list, which won a bronze medal at the Swiss Wine List Awards, is worth a visit in itself. For guests looking to discover something new, Cécile also offers a surprise bottle.
The concept is particularly appealing to wine lovers: Cécile selects a wine blindly according to the tastes and budget of the guests, who can then try to guess the grape variety or unravel the mystery as the meal progresses. A convivial and fun experience.
A place full of charm
The intimate and bucolic terrace is perfect for relaxing on sunny days, while the interior offers a warm and elegant atmosphere.
The hotel, which has been awarded the Bike Hotel label, provides cyclists with a secure storage room and the necessary equipment for minor repairs.
Cécile is multilingual, speaking all the Swiss national languages and also has some knowledge of Japanese.
The clientele of the Rêves Gourmands hotel is distinguished by its diversity and transient nature. The establishment attracts motorcyclists in particular. There are also train enthusiasts, seduced by the region and its panoramic lines, as well as hikers who come to enjoy the natural setting.
Regional attractions play a key role in attracting customers, particularly the Pierre Gianadda Foundation and the Lavey Baths. In addition, there are more occasional stays motivated by skiing.
Finally, gastronomy remains a determining factor: some of the clientele choose the hotel specifically for its culinary offerings.
An anecdote
When asked for an anecdote, Cécile recalls a tourist from abroad who assured them that the weather forecast was completely wrong.
After a few exchanges, the mystery was solved: he was checking the weather in St. Moritz... instead of St. Maurice.
Two Swiss destinations and, obviously, two very different climates. It just goes to show that even the weather can hold surprises, especially when you look in the wrong place.
Anchored in the region
Lovers of their valley, the hosts are happy to recommend their favourite spots: always curious, travellers and gourmets, the couple embodies the passion for their profession that has made their establishment famous and brings joy to those who walk through their door.
- The Défi des Gorges du Trient trail, to be discovered on foot for lovers of summer thrills,
- The VerticAlp Emosson, to admire spectacular landscapes on sunny days,
- And, in winter, a visit to the Marécottes Zoo, ideal for enjoying the site in a more peaceful atmosphere.
