WATERFLOW- 1,2,3 DAMS

The Emosson dam, the second largest water reservoir in Switzerland, is one of three structures on the site, which also includes the Vieux-Emosson dam and the Barberine dam, which was visible until the beginning of the summer and then drowned under the waters of Lake Emosson.

Emosson DAM (1935M)

Emosson, the second largest dam in Switzerland!

Built between 1969 and 1975, the Emosson dam, located at the Gueulaz pass, is the second largest dam in Switzerland in terms of capacity (227 million m3). With its 180-metre high wall, it is the third highest dam in Valais, after the Grande-Dixence and Mauvoisin dams.

Vieux Emosson DAM (2205M)

The Vieux-Emosson dam was built in 1955 by the SBB.

In parallel with the construction of the Nant-de-Drance pumped-storage hydroelectric power station, it was raised by 20 metres in order to double the capacity of the water reservoir. It is now 65 metres high and has a maximum water volume of 25 million m3.

BARBERINE DAM

Visible until the beginning of summer, then drowned under the waters of Lake Emosson.
